Happy Father’s Day to all our Operatunity Fathers.
In the past couple of days we have all been shocked and saddened by events fuelled by hate. So let’s celebrate our fathers today as men of love rather than one man of hate.
You may have missed our special Father’s Day Happiness Half Hour we presented last year in lockdown - hard to believe we were in lockdown at exactly the same time one year ago!
I was lucky enough to have a great Dad and, like many of you, I miss him most on special days like Father’s Day. My Dad’s name was Maurice. He was kind and loving and had a great sense of humour. He loved telling Irish jokes and he also had many great sayings! He always said ‘be the best you can’, ‘only your best will do’. When we were about to do exams or when we were doing something new or scary he would say, as we left home, ‘give ‘em hell’. He also said when we were upset, ‘don’t let the buggers get you down!’ These sayings have stayed with me over the years and helped me.
I have also been lucky to be surrounded by many great men in my life including my Father, my husband John and my Father-in-law. I salute them all today as men of integrity and courage who have a great capacity to love. Thank you for all you have done for me and for so many around you.
Please enjoy our tribute to Fathers today. Thank you Fathers everywhere and have a wonderful day.
Happy Father’s Day!
Love Sue, (John) and all the Operatunity team.
