Join Operatunity in Ancient Egypt

Operatunity is excited to introduce our newest trip for 2018, Agatha Christie’s Egypt! From Pharaohs, pyramids, tombs and temples, you will explore Egypt in true style, the way many celebrities, artists, kings & queens and world leaders have before.

To begin your journey of the ancient and magnificent, you will stay in the historic, 5-star Mena House Hotel in Cairo (Egypt’s capital and largest city). With views of the Great Pyramids of Giza and exquisite antiques embellishing the interior, the Mena House is regarded the leading luxury hotel in Cairo and has hosted many famous names, such as Winston Churchill, Sir Arthur Doyle, Charlie Chaplin, Frank Sinatra and more! You will stay 5 nights at Mena House.

From Cairo you travel south to Aswan, a city nestled on the River Nile. Here you will have an indulgent stay at the 5-star Sofitel Legend Old Cataract Hotel. This hotel is known for its architecture, luxurious interior and hand-crafted furnishings. With amazing surroundings, Sofitel sits on the bank of the Nile and backs onto the pink granite shelf of the Nubian Dessert. The list of famous guests Sofitel has hosted is extensive, but to name a few: Princess Diana, Margaret Thatcher, Winston Churchill, Tsar Nicholas II and Agatha Christie, who portioned parts of her book Death on the Nile at the hotel, and was featured in the film adaptation.

After Aswan, you will board the Steam Ship Sudan. This ship was one of the largest steam boats in Sir Thomas Cook’s Nile fleet of cruise ships in 1886. This ship was where Agatha Christie was inspired to write her novel Death on the Nile, and was featured in the film adaptation along with the Old Cateract Hotel. Cook constructed the now named Sofitel Legend Old Cataract Hotel in 1899 to cater to his passengers aboard the SS Sudan. You will stay 5 nights on the cruise ship, gliding on the River Nile and stopping at Kom Ombo, Edfu, Luxor, Qena, Dendera & Abydos along the way.

From the ship, you will move on to Luxor, known as the ‘world's greatest open-air-museum’. Here you find a wealth of ancient Egyptian sites, such as the Valley of the Kings, Valley of the Queens and Tombs of the Nobles. While in Luxor you will stay at the Sofitel Winter Palace Luxor. Built in the colonial era, this 5-star resort is also located on the bank of the Nile, and was host Howard Carter’s famous 1922 press conference where he announced he had found the Tomb of Tutankhamun.

Our Agatha Christie's Egypt trip is utterly luxurious, filled with culture and history, and is certainly not to be missed. Travelling November 3 - 27, 2018. Inquire today by calling 0508 886 489 or email travel@operatunity.co.nz.
