Tour Egypt Like Agatha Christie

Agatha Christie’s travels and lavish lifestyle in Egypt were Operatunity’s inspiration for our new trip Agatha Christie's Egypt, and we will follow many of this great author's steps through this ancient land.

Agatha Christie (1890-1976) was a crime novelist and archaeologist, and is still the most successful author in the world, selling billions of copies world-wide. Many of her novels such as Death on the Nile, Murder in Mesopotamia, and Death Comes as the End are set in Egypt, after herself and husband, famous archaeologist Max Mallowan spent over 3 decades unearthing ancient artefacts throughout Egypt and the Middle East. While Christie and Mallowan were on their excavations, they would stay in what are now famous, grand hotels and cruise ships, many of which we will stay on our Agatha Christie's Egypt tour.

You will board the SS Sudan in Aswan, the same cruise ship that inspired Christie to write Death on the Nile, after her time on the ship in 1933. Since the books publishing in 1937, the SS Sudan has been featured in both film adaptations in 1978 and 2004. You will stay 5 nights on the cruise ship, gliding on the River Nile and stopping at Kom Ombo, Edfu, Luxor, Qena, Dendera & Abydos along the way.

We will tour the city of Aswan for three nights, staying at the Sofitel Legend Old Cataract Hotel, which was often accommodation of Christie and Mallowan. This hotel is also used as a setting in Christie’s famous Death on the Nile novel, and is known for its architecture, luxurious interior and hand-crafted furnishings. With amazing surroundings, the Sofitel sits on the bank of the Nile and backs onto the pink granite shelf of the Nubian Desert. The Cataract now has an Agatha Christie Suite, on behalf of the stories and business she has provided for the hotel.

We travel to Luxor and stay at the Sofitel Winter Palace, and this is where Christie stayed while writing Death on the Nile. This 5-star resort hotel over looks the Valley of the Kings and is just south of the Temples of Luxor. With a magnificent pool and garden, grand staircase and antique furniture, we will enjoy three nights here, overlooking the Nile and sunset on the open-air veranda.

We will visit many ancient Egyptian sites, like the Valley of the Kings and the Valley of the Queens, the Pyramids of Giza, Grand Egyptian Museum and many more cultural and historical attractions.
